Frequently Asked Questions

Everything You Need to Know

Planning a Morocco tour? Here are the answers to the questions we hear most often.

What is included in the tour price?
+
All our tours include: private transport in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle, an English-speaking driver/guide throughout, accommodation (riads and guesthouses), daily breakfast, camel trek (on desert tours), and all transfers. Lunches, dinners (except desert camp), personal expenses, entrance fees to optional sites, and international flights are not included. Each tour page specifies exactly what's included and excluded.
How do I book a tour? Do I need to pay in advance?
+
Booking is simple — contact us via the booking form, email (maroccotourismus@gmail.com), or WhatsApp (+212 708 226 947). We'll confirm availability and send you an invoice. A deposit of 20% confirms your booking. The balance is due 7 days before departure, or on arrival for last-minute bookings. We accept bank transfer, PayPal, and cash on arrival.
Can I customise an itinerary? Are tours private?
+
Yes — all our tours are 100% private (just your group, no strangers). Every itinerary can be customised: add or remove stops, adjust pace, change accommodation level, add activities like cooking classes, quad biking, or camel trekking. Contact us and we'll build your perfect Morocco journey from scratch. We've done it hundreds of times.
What is the best time of year to visit Morocco?
+
Morocco is a year-round destination. The best seasons are spring (March–May) — warm days, blooming roses in the Rose Valley, green Atlas mountains — and autumn (September–November) — perfect desert temperatures and golden light. Summer (June–August) is hot in the desert (40°C+) but pleasant on the Atlantic coast. Winter (December–February) can be cold in the mountains but the Sahara is mild and uncrowded. Chefchaouen is beautiful year-round.
Is Morocco safe for tourists? For solo travellers?
+
Morocco is one of Africa's safest countries for tourists and consistently ranked among the top destinations by solo travellers, especially solo female travellers. Our guides are vetted professionals who ensure your safety throughout. We recommend normal city precautions (keep valuables secure, be aware in crowded medinas) — the same as any major city worldwide. Many of our past travellers have been solo travellers who felt completely safe and well looked-after.
What languages does the guide speak?
+
All our guides and drivers speak fluent English. We also have guides available in French, German, Spanish, and Italian — please specify your language preference when booking. Our local medina guides in Fes and Marrakech are licensed by the Moroccan Ministry of Tourism and speak multiple languages.
What is the accommodation like? Can I upgrade?
+
Our standard tours include comfortable 3-star riads and guesthouses — clean, authentic, and characterful. Luxury upgrades to 4-star and 5-star riads (including some of Morocco's most beautiful boutique properties) are available on request for a supplement. The Sahara desert camps include luxury Berber-style tents with proper beds, linens, and private bathrooms — not basic camping. We'll always tell you exactly what to expect before you book.
What is the cancellation policy?
+
Free cancellation is available on most tours when cancelled 10+ days before departure. For other cancellations: 80% refund at 30+ days, 50% at 15–29 days, 25% at 7–14 days, no refund under 7 days. We always recommend purchasing travel insurance. See our full Cancellation Policy for details.
Do I need a visa to visit Morocco?
+
Citizens of the EU, USA, Canada, UK, Australia, and most Western countries do not need a visa to enter Morocco — a valid passport is sufficient for stays up to 90 days. Citizens of other countries should check with the nearest Moroccan embassy or consulate. Your passport should be valid for at least 6 months beyond your travel dates. We can advise on entry requirements for your specific nationality.
What currency is used? Can I pay by card?
+
Morocco uses the Moroccan Dirham (MAD). It is a closed currency — you cannot obtain it outside Morocco. ATMs are widely available in cities (Marrakech, Fes, Casablanca, Agadir) and accept Visa and Mastercard. We recommend bringing some cash for tips, small purchases, and souks. Tour payments can be made by bank transfer, PayPal, or cash in Euros, USD, or GBP — we will confirm rates at booking.
What should I pack for a Morocco desert tour?
+
Essentials: light breathable clothing (cotton or linen), a warm layer for desert nights (temperatures drop sharply after sunset), a hat and sunscreen, comfortable walking shoes, a scarf or shawl (for mosque visits and sun protection), and a small backpack for day trips. For the desert: a headlamp/torch, lip balm, and a camera. In Morocco's medinas, modest dress is appreciated — shoulders and knees covered — especially when visiting mosques or religious sites.
Are there vegetarian / halal / dietary options?
+
Morocco is excellent for vegetarians — traditional Moroccan cuisine includes many vegetable tagines, couscous with seven vegetables, harira soup, and fresh salads. All food in Morocco is halal by default. Please inform us of any dietary requirements (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, allergies) at the time of booking and we will ensure all meals are prepared accordingly. The desert camp can accommodate most dietary needs with advance notice.
What is the best time of year to visit Morocco?
+
Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) offer the most comfortable temperatures nationwide and are the best all-round seasons for combining the desert, mountains, and cities. Summer (June–August) is very hot in the Sahara and inland cities like Marrakech and Fes (often 38–45°C), though the Atlantic coast (Essaouira, Agadir) and the Atlas Mountains stay pleasant. Winter (December–February) brings mild days but cold desert nights (sometimes near freezing) and possible snow in the High Atlas — a magical time for photography, but pack warm layers. There's no wrong season to visit Morocco; it simply changes what you should pack and where you'll be most comfortable.
What should I pack for a Morocco tour?
+
Layers are key, since temperatures swing widely between day and night, especially in the desert. Bring: lightweight, breathable clothing for daytime; a warm layer (fleece or jacket) and a scarf for cold desert evenings and early mornings; comfortable walking shoes or trainers; a hat and high-SPF sunscreen; sunglasses; a reusable water bottle; a basic first-aid/medication kit; and a swimsuit if your itinerary includes a riad pool or the coast. Modest clothing (shoulders and knees covered) is appreciated when visiting mosques, kasbahs, and local villages. If you're joining an overnight desert camp, pack a small overnight bag separately so your main luggage can stay in the vehicle.
Who are your guides and drivers?
+
All our guides and drivers are experienced, licensed local professionals who speak English and Spanish (with French widely spoken too). They know Morocco's roads, regions, and culture in depth, and are selected for their reliability, local knowledge, and genuine hospitality. Your guide/driver stays with you throughout private tours, handling logistics so you can focus on the experience — from navigating mountain passes to recommending the best spot for a photo or a mint tea.
When is the best time to visit Morocco?
+
Morocco can be visited year-round, but the best months are generally March–May and September–November, with mild temperatures across the Atlas Mountains, desert, and coast. Summer (June–August) is hot inland and in the Sahara (often 40°C+ by day) but pleasant on the Atlantic coast in Essaouira and Agadir. Winter (December–February) brings cold nights in the desert and snow in the High Atlas, but comfortable days in Marrakech and Fes — it's also the best season to see the Atlas peaks capped in white. For desert tours specifically, spring and autumn offer the most comfortable balance of warm days and manageable nights.
What should I pack for my Morocco tour?
+
Pack in layers — days can be warm even when nights are cold, especially in the desert and mountains. Essentials: lightweight breathable clothing, a warm layer or jacket (desert nights can drop close to freezing, even in summer), comfortable walking shoes, a scarf or shawl (useful for sun, wind, and dust, and for covering shoulders at religious sites), sunglasses, sunscreen, and a reusable water bottle. Modest clothing (covering shoulders and knees) is appreciated in medinas and rural areas, though Morocco is generally relaxed about tourist dress. Don't forget a headlamp or torch for desert camps, and a portable charger — outlets can be scarce en route.
Should I tip my guide and driver?
+
Tipping is customary in Morocco and appreciated, though never obligatory. As a general guide: €5–10 per day for your private guide/driver, a few euros per bag for hotel porters, and 10% at restaurants if a service charge isn't already included (round up for casual meals). For multi-day tours with a dedicated driver-guide, many travellers tip a lump sum at the end of the trip rather than daily. Tips are best given in cash — small notes in euros, US dollars, or Moroccan dirhams are all welcome.
What about SIM cards and electrical outlets in Morocco?
+
Morocco uses Type C and Type E plugs (220V, the same round two-pin style used across most of Europe) — travellers from the UK, US, or elsewhere will need an adapter. Prepaid SIM cards are cheap and widely available from Maroc Telecom, Orange, and Inwi at the airport or in any city — you'll need your passport to register one. Most offer affordable data packages that work well even in rural areas, though coverage can be patchy deep in the Sahara or high in the Atlas Mountains.
