Feel free to feed them as you wander through the forest. Afterward, we head to Midelt for lunch, then begin our journey towards the Sahara Desert. We drive through the Tizi-n-Tilghmt pass and alongside the Ziz River, taking in the dramatic landscapes. In the afternoon, we arrive in Merzouga, the gateway to the Sahara. After switching to camels, we’ll embark on a ride across the golden sand dunes, making a stop to witness the magical sunset atop a high dune. We then head to our luxury desert camp where you’ll enjoy Berber drum music, dance around the campfire, and stargaze under the vast desert sky. Dinner and overnight at the camp.
Start your day early to witness the sunrise in the heart of the desert – a breathtaking experience. After breakfast, you’ll return to Merzouga by camel, where your driver will be waiting. Today is dedicated to exploring the Merzouga region, which is rich in natural wonders, from sand dunes to wild lakes and fossils. We begin with a visit to an ancient eyeliner mine, followed by a stop to meet the nomadic Berbers living in their handmade woven tents, where you’ll learn about their way of life while enjoying a cup of Berber tea. Next, we visit Khamlia village, where you’ll enjoy a lively performance of Gnaoua music and dancing. The villagers, originally from sub-Saharan countries like Mali, Sudan, and Niger, bring a unique cultural flavor to the region. Afterward, we’ll have some free time for lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, we take a stroll through the palm groves of Merzouga and drive a short distance to the wild lake (also known as Flamingo Lake), a seasonal lake that attracts migratory birds, including flamingos. Dinner and overnight in a hotel.
After breakfast, we leave the desert and head to Rissani, the ancient capital of Tafilalet, known for its vibrant souks, especially lively on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. After exploring the souk, we drive to Erfoud, famous for its fossilized marble. We’ll visit a local workshop where artisans turn fossils into unique objects. Next, we drive through the palm groves of Touroug and Tinjdad, heading towards the Todra Gorges. Carved by the Todra River, these dramatic gorges feature towering red cliffs, making it a popular spot for rock climbers. You’ll have time to explore and appreciate the natural beauty of the area. After a free lunch, we continue to the Dades Valley, passing through Boumalne Dades. We’ll stop to admire the famous “Monkey Fingers” rock formation and take in the view from a panoramic spot overlooking the valley. The day ends with dinner and an overnight stay at a hotel in the Dades Valley.
On the final day of the tour, we head to Kalaa Magouna to visit the Rose Valley, known for its fields of roses. If you’re traveling in May, you’ll have the chance to experience the Rose Festival, where locals showcase their rose-based products, including perfumes, rose water, oils, and cosmetics. From there, we drive through the lush palm groves of Skoura before arriving in Ouarzazate, known as the “Gateway to the Desert.” We’ll visit the famous cinema studios, where many blockbuster films have been shot. Afterward, we depart for the iconic Ait Benhaddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage site and a popular filming location for movies such as Gladiator, The Mummy, and TV series like Game of Thrones.
