A ITINERARY : 5 DAYS FROM FES TO MARRAKECHVIA DESERT

Your 5-day desert adventure begins with an early pick-up from your accommodation or Fes airport. We head south, passing through Imouzzer and Ifrane, a charming town known for its alpine-style houses and cool climate. Ifrane’s nickname, “the Switzerland of Morocco,” is fitting, given its beautiful landscapes and snow in winter. After Ifrane, we continue our journey to the Cedar Forest, where you may spot the Barbary macaques. Feel free to feed them as you take a walk through the forest. We then head to Midelt, where we will stop for lunch. In the afternoon, we travel through the Tizi-n-Tilghmt pass and alongside the Ziz River, before reaching the edge of the Sahara Desert. Upon arrival in Merzouga, you’ll swap your vehicle for camels and begin a thrilling ride through the golden dunes. We’ll stop for a magical sunset atop a high dune, then continue to the luxury desert camp, where you’ll enjoy Berber music, dancing around a campfire, and stargazing under the vast desert sky. Dinner and overnight stay at the camp.

An early wake-up is essential to witness the breathtaking sunrise over the desert dunes. After breakfast, we return to Merzouga on camels, where your driver will be waiting. We dedicate this day to exploring the Merzouga region, which is full of fascinating sites, including sand dunes, wild lakes, mines, fossils, and oases—ideal for outdoor activities. First, we drive off-road to visit an ancient eyeliner mine, then visit the nomads living in handmade woven tents. Here, you’ll learn about their way of life while enjoying a traditional Berber tea. We then head to Khamlia, a village known for its Gnaoua music and lively dance performances. The village’s inhabitants come from sub-Saharan countries like Mali, Sudan, and Niger, adding a unique cultural flavor to the region. After lunch at a local restaurant, we take a walk through the palm groves of Merzouga, and later drive a few kilometers to see the wild lake of Merzouga, also known as Flamingos Lake. Dinner and overnight stay in a hotel.

After breakfast, we leave the desert and head towards Rissani, the ancient capital of Tafilalet. Rissani is still a major trading hub, with a lively souk on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. After exploring the souk, we continue to Erfoud, famous for its fossilized marble, and visit a local workshop to see how artisans transform fossils into decorative items. From Erfoud, we drive through the Touroug and Tinjdad palm groves on our way to the stunning Todra Gorges. Carved by the Todra River, the gorges feature towering red cliffs, making it a favorite spot for rock climbers. You’ll have free time to explore the gorges and take in the beauty of the landscape. After lunch, we continue to the Dades Valley, passing through Boumalne Dades. We’ll stop at the famous “Monkey Fingers” rock formation and take a break at a viewpoint overlooking the Dades Valley. The day ends with dinner and an overnight stay at a hotel in the Dades Valley.

After breakfast, we head towards Kalaa Magouna to explore the beautiful Rose Valley. The valley is known for its rose fields, and if you’re traveling in May, you’ll experience the annual Rose Festival, where locals sell a variety of rose-based products, including perfumes, rose water, oils, and cosmetics. Afterward, we continue through the palm groves of Skoura, visiting the impressive Kasbah of Amridil along the way. Later, we arrive in Ouarzazate, also known as the “Gateway to the Desert.” Here, we’ll visit the famous cinema studios, where major films such as Gladiator, The Mummy, and Lawrence of Arabia were filmed. We’ll also visit the Taourirt Kasbah, a UNESCO-listed fortress. Dinner and overnight stay in a hotel in Ouarzazate.

On the final day of your desert tour, we start with a visit to the iconic Ait Benhaddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This fortified village has been featured in numerous films, including Gladiator, Alexander, The Mummy, and TV series like Game of Thrones. After exploring the kasbah, we continue our journey to Marrakech by driving through the scenic Tizi-n-Tichka pass in the High Atlas Mountains, one of the most beautiful mountain routes in Morocco. Along the way, we’ll make stops for lunch and take in panoramic views of the mountains and valleys. Finally, we reach Marrakech, where we’ll drop you off at your accommodation or the airport. This marks the end of your unforgettable 5-day desert adventure.
