Early departure from Fes. Drive south through the alpine town of Ifrane and the Azrou cedar forest, home to Barbary macaques. Lunch in Midelt, then through the Ziz Gorges and Ziz Valley palm groves to Merzouga. Sunset camel trek into the Erg Chebbi dunes, Berber dinner and music, overnight in a traditional desert camp.
Dawn Sahara sunrise over the dunes. Full day exploring Erg Chebbi: a 4×4 excursion to the flamingo lake and nomadic Berber families, sandboarding down the dunes, and a stop in Khamlia village for live Gnawa music. Second night in the desert camp under the stars.
Morning stop in Rissani, birthplace of the Alaouite dynasty. Drive through the dramatic Todra Gorges, with cliffs rising 300m above the valley floor. Continue along the Dades Valley — the 'Road of a Thousand Kasbahs' — to Ouarzazate, Morocco's film-studio capital. Overnight in Ouarzazate.
