Day by Day Itinerary
Pick-up from Tanger (8:00 AM). Quick stop in Tetouan — UNESCO Spanish-Moorish medina. Drive through the dramatic Rif Mountains pine and cedar forests to the magical Blue City of Chefchaouen. Arrive early afternoon for maximum time to explore: the iconic blue-painted medina alleys, the Uta el-Hammam central plaza with the old kasbah, the Spanish mosque viewpoint for panoramic photos, and the waterfall walk above the city. Overnight in Chefchaouen.
Morning free in Chefchaouen for more exploration or photography. Drive east through Ouezzane. Visit Meknes — Morocco's "Versailles" built by Sultan Moulay Ismail in the 17th century. See the magnificent Bab Mansour gate, Moulay Ismail mausoleum, the vast granaries and stables of Heri es-Souani. Visit the UNESCO Roman ruins of Volubilis — stunning 2nd century mosaics, triumphal arch, and basilica still standing. Arrive in Fes for a guided evening walk through the medina. Overnight in Fes.
Full morning guided tour of the extraordinary Fes el-Bali medina — a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the world's largest car-free urban area. Visit the 11th-century Chouara tanneries (best viewed from leather shop terraces), the Al-Attarine madrasa (stunning Zellige mosaic tilework and carved cedar), Bou Inania madrasa, the ancient Kairaouine mosque (world's oldest continuously operating university, founded 859 AD), and the vibrant souks. Afternoon drive north back to Tanger (~3 hours). Arrive in Tanger by early evening.
